I’ve just posted a long video showing how to paint the face, arm, shoulder and gold NMM chest symbol of the Askurgan Exemplar vampire (samurai vampire!) – click here to watch it, now!
This was a gift from my wife for Valentine’s Day! The Samurai Vampire will also be going into my Golden Demon vampire unit entry.
I have the latest video for the Khorne Lord on Juggernaut made, it just needs the voice over. This will be out this week
Part 2 for the Samurai Vampire is also out this week, which will look at the swords and robes. I am aiming to build the base as another video for him.
Who are these ‘Samurai Vampire’?
The Askurgan Trueblades are a unique and deadly force, often referred to as “samurai vampires” for their disciplined approach to combat and life. Unlike most Soulblight Vampires, who revel in their nobility and thirst for mortal blood, these warrior monks have chosen the path of asceticism, shunning indulgence to hone their martial prowess. They dwell in the remote mountains of Ghur, living a life of strict discipline, all in pursuit of mastering their vampiric powers.
Following the teachings of the ancient and mysterious Renkai order, these samurai vampires refuse to feast on the blood of mortals, viewing it as beneath them. Instead, they seek out the mightiest beasts to satisfy their hunger, demonstrating their superiority by facing lesser foes with an almost contemptuous disregard. In battle, the Askurgan Trueblades often fight with one hand behind their back or even with their eyes closed, showcasing their “Lofty Disdain” for anything less than a worthy opponent.
At the heart of each warband is the Askurgan Exemplar, a samurai vampire of unparalleled skill, meditating constantly to keep their bestial urges in check. However, not all Trueblades succeed in this struggle. Some fall to their darker nature, becoming Cursebloods, monstrous vampires who can incapacitate their enemies with a Terrifying Howl. Despite this, the majority of the warband remains focused, fighting with precision and calm, relying on their rigorous training to dispatch foes with minimal effort.
These samurai vampires are not without their internal divisions. The warband consists of high-ranking Ascetics, newly turned Acolytes, and Pariahs—vampires who have managed to reverse their transformation through sheer force of will, regaining their humanity but still wielding animalistic strength and cunning. Each member of the warband follows strict martial kata, delivering lethal strikes with unparalleled precision.
In Warcry: Bloodhunt, the samurai vampires of the Askurgan Trueblades enter the Gnarlwood, seeking out the savage beasts and an elder of their Renkai order. But their mission won’t be easy, as they face off against the ferocious Claws of Karanak, a bloodthirsty warband driven by the frenzied will of Khorne. The disciplined restraint of these ascetic samurai vampires will be put to the test against the chaotic fury of their enemies.
