Warcry Briar and Bone Unboxing: A Detailed Review
Hello and welcome to another unboxing! Today, I’m diving into the latest addition to the Warcry universe, the Briar and Bone box set. We’ll unbox the set, take a look at some of the models, and delve into everything inside.
Introduction to Warcry
For those new to the Warcry universe, Warcry is set in the Mortal Realms, a fantastical universe within the Age of Sigmar. The game focuses on small skirmishes between warbands vying for power, glory, and survival in a world filled with magic, monsters, and ancient secrets. The Briar and Bone box set introduces a new conflict between two unique warbands, diving deep into the realm of Ghyran —the Realm of Life. This lush, enchanted, and perilous wilderness sets the stage for our adventure.

The Ossiarch Bonereapers: Petrified Cohorts
As we open the box, we first encounter the Ossiarch Bonereapers, specifically the Petrified Cohorts. These are some of Nagash’s most formidable creations—twisted bone constructs built for war. Led by the Cavalos Centuri, a fusion of a Liege Cavalos and their steed, these models are grotesque yet fascinating. The Cavalos Centuri is a complex model with heavy armour and twisted bone structures, making it a unique and disturbing figure.
The Petrified Cohorts are crafted from bones collected through a gruesome tax imposed on living people. Villages offer bones, even limbs, to avoid total annihilation. If the tax is insufficient, the Bonereapers attack, leaving the remains as a stark warning.
More Ossiarch Bonereapers
Next, we have the Mortech Cyclopean, herders of the Petrified Cohorts. With humanoid silhouettes and bestial minds, these intricate models are both detailed and delicate. Following them are the Petrified Prowlers, hunting beasts with twisted limbs, and the Aviarch Harpies, winged creatures sculpted for lethality.
The Twistweald Afflicted Sylvaneth
Moving on to the Twistweald, the opposing warband, these Sylvaneth are infected by bizarre arcane parasites. The Gnarlwood’s realm-shaping misfires overgrow their bodies, causing them constant pain and driving them to seek the healing touch of their god, Alarielle. Unfortunately, they are more potent as twisted warriors.
The Swarmsage, their leader, has discovered a unique way to delay the parasitic infection by communing with Spiteswarms—insects infused with jade magic. These insects consume the corrupted matter on their hosts, providing strength despite some harm. The Swarmsage model is extremely intricate, making it a challenge to assemble and paint.
Additional Twistweald Models
The Twistweald Spite-Revenants, infected by the Twistweald, use their thorny appendages to attack enemies, appreciating their new shades despite the pain. The Twistweald Wardens retain their sanity and become powerful sentinels, sacrificing their lives to protect the Swarmsage. Their attacks spread spores that infect their enemies, making them formidable opponents.
Terrain Piece: The Ravening Gnarl
Also included in the box is the Ravening Gnarl, a terrain piece with a couple of attacks. This cursed chair-like structure adds an interesting element to the game.
Additional Contents
Additional Contents:
- Warband Tome: Briar and Bone: The exclusive Warband Tome is a banquet of lore, illustrations, rules for both warbands and the Ravening Gnarloak, as well as quests, background tables, a shared campaign arc, and a new Battleplan Generator.
Cards: The set comes with 12 fighter cards, three ability cards, three divider cards, and 42 battleplan cards to help you manage your warband and battles effectively.
The assembly instructions are also included. The Briar and Bone rulebook contains lots of artwork and lore, making it a fascinating read. The assembly instructions are full-colour and glossy, although the models are quite fiddly and challenging to assemble, making this set more suitable for experienced hobbyists.
Final Thoughts
This Warcry Briar and Bone set is an exciting addition to the Warcry universe, with intricate models and a rich narrative. However, due to the complexity of the models, it is recommended for experienced hobbyists rather than beginners.
