Whats inside the Mechanicum Battle Group box?
The Mechanicum Battle Group is a versatile set that serves as a solid foundation for a new Mechanicum army or as a powerful reinforcement to your existing collection. The box is packed with everything you need to recreate the dark, technologically advanced forces of the 31st Millennium.
The heart of this set is undoubtedly the Triaros Armoured Conveyor—the largest and most striking model in the box. This dedicated transport is a testament to the arcane and advanced technologies wielded by the Mechanicum. With its massive storage bay and specialized couplings for recharging and putting Tech-Thralls into cold sleep, the Triaros is as versatile as it is visually stunning. Whether battling on the brutal fields of the Horus Heresy or exploring hostile, uncharted worlds, this model is sure to be a centerpiece in any army.
The Tech-Thralls, who form the infantry core of this set, come in a squad of 20 and are equipped with Lazlocks. These cybernetic soldiers, guided by the cold iron logic of their Tech-Priest overlords, are the expendable labour and combat units of the Mechanicum. They march into battle with unwavering obedience, their altered bodies and mechanized limbs making them relentless and durable in combat. The Tech-Thralls embody the dark side of the Mechanicum’s technological advancements—efficiency at any moral cost.
The Stars of the Set: Elite Units and Heavy Hitters
No Mechanicum force would be complete without its elite units, and this set includes six Thallax Cohorts—durable cyborgs equipped with lightning guns and a variety of special weapon options. Despite their robotic appearance, the Thallax are not fully automated; their major organs and nervous systems are encased within their armour, allowing them a measure of independent thought. This makes them versatile on the battlefield, capable of holding positions or executing rapid assaults with their nimble jetpacks.
The final, and perhaps most exciting, component of this set are the two Castellax Battle Automata. These hulking machines are fan favourites due to their retro-future robot aesthetic and formidable firepower. Developed during the Great Crusade for siege work and shock assaults, Castellax are three times the height of a man and bring a terrifying presence to any battlefield. With options to equip them with bolters, multi-meltas, darkfire cannons, and more, these robots are versatile enough to tackle any foe, from infantry to heavy armour.
Assembly and Final Thoughts
The box comes with 826 plastic components, including all the necessary bases, and a detailed instruction booklet printed on glossy, full-colour paper. If you’re new to assembling models, there are plenty of tutorials available online to help you get started (check out this page for some of ours).
Miniature Painting Tools, Tips, Assembly and Airbrushing
I have had a lot of requests for more information on the miniature painting tools which I use and basics for cleaning up, priming, airbrushing and assembling models.
In conclusion, the Mechanicum Battle Group is a must-have for any Warhammer enthusiast, especially those with a passion for the Horus Heresy era. The set offers a rich and immersive experience, with beautifully crafted models that bring the dark, technological horror of the Mechanicum to life. Whether you’re starting a new army or adding to an existing one, this box set is a fantastic investment in your Warhammer journey.
